Cinco de Mayo

Ok so someone asked me why people celebrate Cinco De Mayo, this pretty much sums it up:

"Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory, on May 5, 1862, of an ill-equipped Mexican army fending off a large invading French force at the Battle of Puebla. It's a day of national pride in Mexico, but not celebrated with nearly the fervor as Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 15. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has become a holiday to celebrate all things Mexican, and Latino heritage more broadly."

Enjoying the sunshine!

Today we decided to venture outdoors to take advantage of the nice weather mother nature threw our way. One of our favorite spots is Ross Park. The kids love the tall trees and swings. Ashlyn was so excited to see her favorite swing after a long departure. Adrianna didn't really want anything to do with the swings and also decided she didn't want to be in any pictures. We had fun soaking up the rays and playing hide-n-go-seek. I hope this weather keeps up, I don't know if I can take another gloomy, snowy, rainy, yucky day!

The Co-op Crew

Every Saturday night some of our local friends and us participate in a babysitting co-op. This past Saturday was my turn to babysit and the kids had a grand ol' time eating apple slices and quesidillas. I couldn't help but snap a photo!

Ashlyn says the darndest things

Ashlyn: Look at my pretty dress mommy!
Me: Yes Ashlyn you look like a pretty princess.
Ashlyn: No mommy I not a princess, I am the queen

Ashlyn defiantly knows her place in our household!

Me: Ashlyn we're going to go through the car wash OK.
Ashlyn: (as the water sprinkles by her window) Hey mommy the water is tickling me! He He that tickles.

What a funny girl!

Ashlyn praying: Heabnly Father, Thank you for Grandma and Poppa. Thank you for Mommy and Daddy. Thank you for Calliou. Thank you Jesus Christ AMEN!

It is so sweet to watch your child pray.

Ashlyn singing: (to the tune of the wheels on the bus) I love my mommy, yes I do, yes I do, yes I do and my daddy too. I love Nanna (Adrianna), yes I do, yes I do, yes I do, and ladybugs too.

What an imagination!

Denim Day

Denim Day - April 16Wear Denim & Support Survivors of Sexual Violence
Why Denim?Rome, Italy — 1997 A 56-year old man raped and beat one of his 17-year old students. He abandoned her in an alley and she had to struggle to find her way back home. Undeterred, she testified against him in court and he was convicted of rape and sentenced to jail.
Rome, Italy — 1998 Just after the victim turned 18, the perpetrator appealed his sentence, with the case making it all the way to the Italian Supreme Court. Within a matter of days the case against perpetrator was overturned, dismissed, and he was released.
Worldwide Outrage, — 1998 to present In a statement released by the Italian Supreme Court, the lead Judge argued: “because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them… and by removing the jeans… it was no longer rape but consensual sex.”
Enraged by the verdict, women in the Italian Parliament launched into immediate action and protested by wearing JEANS to work. In April 1999 the state of California established the first Denim Day in the United States. Idaho State University has been observing Annual Denim Day since April 2003.
Break the silence of sexual violence by making a social statement with your fashion statement on April 16.

Preschool

Today my teeny tiny baby girl started preschool. She was so excited to wear her new back pack and meet new friends. When I walked her to her classroom, she turned and said "Bye Mommy" and ran away. I was shocked first of all because our departure from one another use to consist of loud screams and tears, and second because I realized how much she has matured in the past year! I am so proud of the boundaries she has overcome and the accomplishments she has made. What can I say, I love my little Ashlyn.
