Holi-Festival of Colors 2010

Here are just a few of my favorite picture of The Festival of Colors held at Krishna's Lotus Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah. Definitely a unique and awe inspiring celebration!

"Holi has long traditional links with several legends. According to one popular legend, the word Holi is derived from the demoness, Holika. She was the sister of Hiranya Kashipu (the name meaning love of gold and a soft bed), a demon king, who having defeated the Gods, proclaimed his supremacy over everyone else in the Universe. Enraged over his son’s ardent devotion to Lord Vishnu, Hiranya Kashipu decides to punish him. He takes the help of his sister, Holika, who is immune to any damage from fire. Holika carries the small boy Prahlad into the fire but a divine intervention destroys her and saves Prahlad from getting burned. Thus Holi is celebrated to mark the burning of the evil Holika. Her effigy is consumed in the fire!

Holi is celebrated with special importance in the North of India. It solemnizes the love of Radha and Krishna. The spraying of colored powders recalls the love sport of Lord Krishna and His devotees.

The color, noise and entertainment that accompanies the celebration of Holi bears witness to a feeling of oneness and sense of brotherhood. The festival brings home the lesson of spiritual and social harmony!! "

Wonderland, School Blues and A Hybrid

Ashlyn lives in Wonderland. Ever since Friday. After taking the girls I realized that daughter number one's imagination is quite similar to this whimsical world. She is a unique child with very unique stories. One recent conversation......

Me: Ashlyn how did you get that bruise on your leg?
Ashlyn: Well I was riding in my grandma's car and I saw three bunny rabbits hopping along. One was green and two were pink. Then they disappeared. Grandma stopped the car and I jumped out, then an alien popped out of Grandma's car a hit me on the leg. Then he went back to his space ship and flew away.

Ashlyn has always learned through music and drama. This past year at the Cre-Act school has done wonders for her vocabulary, artistic ability and independence. After 34 years the doors of this wonderful school are closing. I am upset but have come to terms. Ashlyn cried a little when I told her the news, then she looked at me and said "Mommy I don't want to grow up anymore." Break my heart, but secretly I don't want her to grow up either.
My talented friend Lauren did a report on the closing of this local school... CRE-ACT

On a happier note I recently purchased this beauty. Can't wait to hit the road!!

This weekend was quite eventful for us. On Friday our friend Daav invited us to his studio show at the Pocatello Old Town Center for the Arts. We were able to enjoy Daav's work as well as many other local artists pieces. Visit Daav's Fine Art America profile to view his fabulous paintings.

On Saturday my good friend Nicole threw an 80s bash. We had such a blast picking out our outfits and dancing to out favorite 80s tunes!

Have you seen Anthro's February catalog? I am in love...with this BED . Seriously I can't stop staring.

Trying to convince John he can fashion one out of wood, or at least something similar.
